Liam Hutchinson
Liam is a Child and Family Psychologist based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, working with children, young people and their whānau. His iwi are Ngāi Tahu and Ngāti Kuri.
He enjoys working alongside parents and caregivers, recognising thatsupporting a young person often means supporting the people around them too. Liam aims to create a space where children and young people feel comfortable, understood and able to show up as they are without pressure or expectation.
His approach is individualised and child-centred, drawing on a range of evidence-based models tailored to the child’s needs and what will be most helpful. Rather than following a single framework, Liam integrates a wide scope of therapeutic approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT), and attachment-focused and trauma-informed work.
Liam has experience supporting young people and their whānau with a range of concerns, including anxiety, mood difficulties, behavioural and emotional challenges, trauma, grief, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He also provides cognitive, learning, ADHD, and autism assessments, offering clear and practical guidance to help families decide on next steps.
