The Child Psychology Service

Kia ora! The Child Psychology Service is a team of experienced child and adolescent psychologists, located throughout New Zealand.  The thing that binds us together as a team is a goal of using psychology to improve the welfare, well-being, learning, and quality of life of children, young people, and their families.

We share the same values, principles, and philosophy. We all follow the same proven processes and systems, which means no matter where you are in the country you can be assured of the same consistent service for you and your child. Finding practical, realistic support for you and your child, that you can fit into your busy life is how we best help.  It’s important to us that everything we do with you and your child needs to be useful and have a practical and purposeful outcome.

We always put your child’s wellbeing and success first. We start with their strengths and what works, it’s less daunting and more effective that way. This gives them (and you) the understanding and resilience to tackle whatever life throws at them with confidence. In turn, giving you peace of mind.

All of the psychologists here at The Child Psychology Service are registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and hold a current practicing certificate. This means we’re bound to the practicing guidance of the New Zealand Psychologists Board.

How We've Helped

Dr Emma Woodward - Founder

Hi, I’m Dr Emma. As well as being a child psychologist, I’m a mum to four boys. This means that I’m really in touch with the realities of having kids, the challenges they face and how the school system in New Zealand works (and no, my kids aren’t always perfectly behaved!).

I’ve been working with children, their families and schools for over 25 years. In fact, apart from a brief spell as a baker in a supermarket in the mid 90’s, it’s been my whole career. When I set up The Child Psychology Service in 2014 it meant I was free to focus on what I truly believe and help strengthen families by providing support focused on building well-being and resilience.

I’ve been lucky enough to meet wonderful, experienced and like-minded practitioners along the way and I now feel fortunate to be able to say that I call these practitioners, friends and colleagues.
