Karen Dalley
My journey into educational psychology began in 2022 with the RTLB service, following more than 15 years as a teacher. This experience gave me a deep understanding of classroom dynamics, learning needs and the importance of strong relationships between tamariki, whānau and educators.
I bring an integrated and creative approach to my practice, using evidence-based psychological and teaching tools supported by strong interpersonal connection. I am mindful not to attribute challenges solely to the child; instead, I explore how the wider systems around them interact and where misalignments might be occurring.
My work is grounded in curiosity — seeking to understand how emotions, thoughts and behaviours shape patterns such as avoidance or seeking and how these affect relationships, learning and overall wellbeing.
I have particular strengths in supporting behaviour and emotional challenges, as well as situations that create stress beyond what an individual can manage across both neurodivergent and neurotypical populations.
My goal is to help children and their whānau find clarity, develop practical strategies and build confidence in navigating the challenges they face.
