Elizabeth (Liz) Rush is a registered psychologist with over 15 years’ experience working across a wide range of psychological settings. Her background includes education, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour, child and adolescent mental health and alternative education settings supporting rangatahi.
Liz’s practice is client-led and strengths-based, grounded in whakawhanaungatanga — the importance of genuine connection and meaningful relationships.
She works alongside tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau to support sustainable, positive change.
Liz focuses on understanding each family’s priorities and concerns and collaborates to build practical, achievable pathways forward through skill development, therapeutic intervention and assessment where appropriate.
Her approach is well captured by the whakataukī:
“Ko koe ki tēnā, ko ahau ki tēnei kiwai o te kete” — You at that handle and I at this handle of the basket.
This reflects Liz’s commitment to shared responsibility, recognising and building on the existing strengths of tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau, and working together towards meaningful outcomes.
Liz is trained in a range of psychological and functional assessments, parent training programmes, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Functional Behaviour Assessment and evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused Therapy.
