Ana Miliffe
Ana is a dedicated Child Psychologist passionate about supporting children, young people and their whānau to thrive.
She brings a thoughtful blend of compassion, professional expertise and practical strategies to her work.
Ana is also a mum to two children, which gives her an additional appreciation of the real-world challenges and joys that come with parenting.
Ana began her psychology career as an Educational Psychologist with the Ministry of Education, where she worked for five years. During this time she developed extensive experience supporting children in educational settings, collaborating closely with teachers, parents and other professionals to create supportive environments for learning, wellbeing and positive development.
Ana completed six years of university study specialising in areas including emotional and behavioural difficulties in children, behaviour analysis, literacy challenges and ecological assessment. Ecological assessment focuses on understanding the wider influences around a child, across home, school and relationships, to identify the factors contributing to challenges and the most effective pathways for change.
Much of Ana’s work focuses on neurodivergence and emotional regulation, particularly anxiety and the different ways it can present for young people, including phobias, separation anxiety, social anxiety and obsessive-compulsive behaviours.
Ana’s therapeutic approach typically includes psychoeducation for parents and children, often delivered in a play-based format that helps children feel comfortable and engaged. She draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and is currently undertaking further training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support children in developing practical skills for managing emotions and building resilience.
For families seeking clarity around ADHD or autism, Ana often uses an ‘assessment through therapy’ approach and works as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside a child psychiatrist, helping build a thoughtful and comprehensive understanding of each child’s needs.
At The Child Psychology Service, Ana offers a range of supports for tamariki and their whānau including:
· Support with emotional regulation, anxiety, and behavioural challenges
· Parent consultation and behaviour support
· Collaborative work with schools and educators to develop tailored strategies
· Therapeutic support for self-esteem, social skills and transitions
· Comprehensive psychological assessments
Ana also offers telehealth assessments for Specific Learning Difficulties (SLDs) including dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia. Her ‘assessment for intervention’ approach links assessment directly to evidence-based literacy and psychological support.
Telehealth provides flexible online access to psychological assessments and support, making it easier for families to receive care from home. Assessments focus on literacy and cognitive skills while also supporting broader wellbeing needs such as self-esteem, emotional regulation and behaviour. Additional assessments (for example ADHD, autism, giftedness or intellectual disability) can also be considered where appropriate.
In-person appointments are available in Queenstown with telehealth available for families across New Zealand.
